The Child Visa (Subclass 802) is a permanent visa that allows a child to stay in Australia permanently and live with their parent, who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

With This Visa, The Child Can:
- Migrate to Australia as a permanent resident.
- Study and access Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare system.
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
- Work and study in Australia.
- Sponsor relatives to come to Australia
- Travel freely to and from Australia for 5 years from the visa grant date.
Note: After 5 years, the child must apply for a Resident Return Visa (RRV) to maintain their permanent resident status for re-entry to Australia.

Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Subclass 802 Visa, the child must:
- Be sponsored by their parent or their parent’s partner.
- Be a dependent child of a parent who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Be single and dependent on the parent.
- Be younger than 18 years old
- Meet the health and character requirements.

- Upon application, a bridging visa will be granted, allowing the child to remain in Australia legally while waiting for the decision.
- Processing times vary based on individual circumstances and government policy. Current estimated times are:
- An expatriate adoption, where the adoption was arranged without Australian government involvement.
- 75% of applications processed in 19 months.
- 90% of applications processed in 22 months.
