Skills in Demand Visa (SID)

The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa is a temporary visa that allows employers to sponsor skilled workers when they cannot find suitably skilled Australian workers to fill the role. This visa replaces the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (Subclass 482) from December 7, 2024 and marks a significant shift in Australia’s approach to skilled migration.

VISA STREAMS

  • Duration: Up to 4 years
  • Processing: Fast-tracked application processing
  • Pathway: Leads to permanent residency

Core Skills Stream

  • Min.Annual salary: $73,150
  • Eligibility: Must be in an occupation on CSOL
  • Duration: Up to 4 years
  • Pathway: Leads to permanent residency

Labour Agreement Stream

  • Eligibility: Based on the terms of the labour agreement
  • Duration: Up to 4 years
  • Pathway: May lead to permanent residency

Application Process

The Skills in Demand Visa involves a three-step application process: ​

Sponsorship Application (Employer)

  • Employer must be an approved sponsor
  • Must demonstrate compliance with Australian workplace laws
  • Meet training and labour market requirements

Nomination Application (Employer)

  • Position must meet salary requirements
  • Must be a genuine role meeting market salary rates
  • Meet training and labour market requirements

Visa Application (Employee)

  • Provide evidence of skills, qualifications, and experience meet salary requirements
  • Meet English language requirements
  • Pass health and character checks
