Orphan Relative visa (subclass 117)
The Orphan Relative Visa (Subclass 117) is a permanent visa that allows a single child to migrate to Australia and live with a relative if their parents are deceased, permanently unable to care for them, or cannot be found.

With This Visa, The Child Can:
- Migrate to Australia as a permanent resident.
- Study and access Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare system.
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
- Work and study in Australia.
Eligibility Requirements
For The Child:
- Must be under 18 years of age.
- Must be single and have no parent available to care for them due to one of the following:
- Parents are deceased.
- Parents are permanently incapable of caring for them.
- Parents cannot be found.
- Must have a relative who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Must be outside Australia when applying and when the visa is granted.
- Must meet health and character requirements.
- The visa grant must be in the best interest of the child.
For The Sponsor:
- Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Must be an eligible relative, which includes:
- Siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or the current spouse or de facto partner of the child’s relative.
- Must be settled in Australia, meaning they have lawfully lived in Australia for at least two years.
- Must provide accommodation and financial assistance to the child for at least two years.
- Must have consent to bring the child to Australia.
- May require court permission for international relocation of the child.
- Must meet character requirements, and will be assessed for any offenses relating to children.
