The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870) allows parents of an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to visit Australia for extended periods without needing to meet the balance of family test or provide an assurance of support.

Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Subclass 870 Visa, you must:

- Be the biological, adoptive, step-parent, or parent-in-law of the sponsor.
- Have a sponsor who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Provide evidence of access to funds.
- Have adequate health insurance for the entire stay.
- Meet health, character, and national security requirements.
Sponsor Requirements
To sponsor a parent under the Subclass 870 Visa, the sponsor must:
- Have a taxable income of at least $83,454.80.
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Have been living in Australia for at least 4 years.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Not have any outstanding debts to the Commonwealth or unresolved public health debts.
- Provide police clearances for any country where they have spent more than 12 months cumulatively in the past 10 years.
- Agree to comply with sponsorship obligations, including financial responsibilities.

- The Australian Government caps the number of Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visas issued each year at 15,000 places.
- Processing times vary depending on the number of applications and whether all required documents are submitted.
Sponsorship Validity
