The Adoption Visa (Subclass 102) is a permanent visa that allows children adopted outside Australia to live in Australia with their adoptive parent.

- Migrate to Australia as a permanent resident to live with their adoptive parent.
- Study and access Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare system.
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
Visa Subclass
Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Subclass 102 Visa, the child must:
- Be under 18 years of age at the time of adoption, when the application is submitted, and when the decision is made.
- Be outside Australia when applying and when the decision is made.
- Be adopted or in the process of being adopted by their sponsor parent through an eligible adoption process.
Eligible Adoption Arrangements
- The child must be adopted or in the process of being adopted through one of the following arrangements:
- An intercountry adoption or arrangement involving an Australian state or territory central authority.
- An intercountry adoption between two Hague Convention countries (excluding Australia).
- An expatriate adoption, where the adoption was arranged without Australian government involvement.
Additional Rules for Expatriate Adoptions
- At least one adoptive parent must have resided outside Australia for more than 12 months immediately before lodging the visa application.
- The adoptive parent must not have lived overseas to bypass Australia’s intercountry adoption laws.
- The adoptive parent must have full and permanent parental rights (with no remaining legal ties between the child and birth parents).
- The adoption must adhere to the adoption laws of the home country.

- Live in Australia indefinitely.
- Enrol in Medicare, Australia’s public healthcare scheme.
- Work and study in Australia.
- Sponsor relatives to come to Australia.
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.

- An Australian citizen
- A holder of an Australian permanent resident visa, or
- An eligible New Zealand citizen.
