The Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) is a permanent visa that allows parents of a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to move to Australia permanently.
With This Visa, You Can:
- Live in Australia indefinitely.
- Work and study full-time in Australia.
- Enroll in Medicare, Australia’s public health scheme.
- Apply for Australian citizenship when eligible.
- Sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia.
- Travel freely to and from Australia for 5 years.
Who Can Be the Sponsor?
To be eligible for the Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143), you must be sponsored by your Australian child. If your child is under 18 years old, an eligible relative, guardian, or community organization may act as the sponsor.
You must also meet the balance of family test, which means:
- At least half of your children and stepchildren are Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens; OR
- More eligible children live in Australia than in any other single country.
Additionally, an assurance of support is required to ensure that visa holders do not rely on government assistance. The sponsor must provide this assurance.
Sponsor Requirements
Your sponsor can be:
- Your child (Australian citizen/PR/eligible New Zealand citizen).
- Your child’s partner or relative/guardian.
- A community organization.
Other Sponsor Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must be settled in Australia, meaning they have lawfully lived in Australia for at least 2 years.
Parent Visa 143 Applicant Requirements
To be eligible for the Subclass 143 Visa, you must:
- Be sponsored by an eligible sponsor.
- Meet the balance of family test.
- Pass health and character checks.
Onshore and Offshore Parent Visas:
- Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143) – Permanent visa for parents willing to contribute a larger visa fee for faster processing.
- Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173) – Temporary visa leading to a permanent Subclass 143 visa.
- Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Temporary) (Subclass 884) – Temporary visa for older parents, allowing them to transition to permanent residency.
- Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804) – Permanent visa for aged parents already in Australia.
- Parent Visa (Subclass 103) – Standard parent visa with a longer processing time but lower cost.
- Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870) – Allows parents to stay temporarily in Australia for up to 5 years, renewable for another 5 years.
Important:
