The Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 124) is a permanent resident visa for individuals with an internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in an eligible field. This visa is closed to new applications as of 14 November 2020. Applicants seeking to apply for a Distinguished Talent Visa must now apply for the Global Talent Visa (Subclass 858).

Important Updates
- From 14 November 2020, new applications for the Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 124) are no longer accepted.
- The repeal of this visa does not impact applications lodged before 14 November 2020.
- Applications submitted before this date will be processed under the regulations in effect at the time of application.

Key Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the Distinguished Talent Visa (Subclass 124) (if submitted before 14 November 2020), applicants must:
- Have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in one of the following fields:
- Profession
- Sport
- Arts
- Academia and research
- Still be prominent in the field of expertise.
- Be an asset to the Australian community.
- Demonstrate no difficulty in securing employment in their area of talent in Australia.
- Be nominated by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organisation with a national reputation in the applicant’s field.
- Demonstrate Functional English proficiency (otherwise, applicants must pay an additional charge called the second instalment).
- If holding or having held a Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa, applicants must have held it for at least 3 years.
- If holding or having held a Skilled Regional (Provisional) Visa, applicants must have held it for at least 3 years.
- Satisfy health and character requirements.
Other Considerations
- Applicants under 18 years old or over 55 years old must prove they would be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.
- Individuals who have provided specialised assistance to the Australian Government in security matters may also be eligible.
