The National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858) is a permanent resident visa for individuals with an internationally recognized record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in an eligible area. This visa replaces the Global Talent Visa, which closed to new applications as of 6 December 2024.

Key Eligibility Requirements
To apply for the National Innovation Visa (Subclass 858), you must:
- Have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in one of the following fields:

- Sport
- Arts
- Academia and research
- Still be prominent in the field of expertise.
- Be an asset to the Australian community.
- Demonstrate no difficulty in securing employment in their area of talent in Australia.
- Be nominated by an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, eligible New Zealand citizen, or an Australian organisation with a national reputation in the applicant’s field.
- Demonstrate Functional English proficiency (otherwise, applicants must pay an additional charge called the second instalment).
- If holding or having held a Subclass 491 or Subclass 494 Visa, you must have held it for at least 3 years.
- Meet Public Interest and Special Return criteria.
- Satisfy health and character requirements.
Other Considerations
- Applicants under 18 years old or over 55 years old must prove they would be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community.
- Individuals who have provided specialised assistance to the Australian Government in security matters may also be eligible.
