A Visitor Visa allows individuals to travel to Australia for a holiday, to visit friends and family, or to undertake short-term business activities. This visa does not allow you to work in Australia, but you may engage in certain activities such as studying for up to three months, volunteering, purchasing property, or working online if incidental to a holiday.
A Visitor Visa can be granted for three, six, or twelve months. In some cases, the Department may impose a restrictive condition preventing the holder from applying for further visas from within Australia. If this condition is not imposed, you may be eligible to apply for other visas from within Australia, such as a Partner Visa, Humanitarian Visa, Student Visa, or Skilled Visa.
In some situations, it may be strategic to enter Australia on a Visitor Visa before applying for another type of visa.
